“LONG TIME NO SEE”
How many times have you heard this iconic phrase used by many of your old “childhood” friends to express the awesome joy, jubilation and surprise of suddenly seeing you face to face after some lengthy period of separation?
Ironically so, it’s finally my turn to say “LONG TIME NO SEE” in reference to finally seeing some sort of meaningful federal criminal justice reform come to full fruition. House Resolution 2944 is probably the most beautiful piece of federal criminal justice reform that I have seen over the past (19) years of waiting for the Congress to “clarify” that the “stacking provision” of 18 U.S.C. sub.sec. 924(c) was never “originally” intended to be used against true first time offenders of the statute itself!
This is great news for all Americans who really desire to see the Justice return back into our so-called Criminal Justice System!
It’s almost like returning back into a second childhood for me (an epiphany of sorts…) just to see the PROCESS beginning to build a relentless momentum on Capitol Hill.
Hey….. speaking of “childhood memories,” how many of you remember the Saturday morning cartoon about proposed “BILLS” and how they become a “LAW?”
Well…. if you do… then sing along with me!” (Saturday Mornings on ABC)
“I’m just a Bill on Capital Hill.”
“Oh I hope and I pray that I will but today I am still just a bill.” (lol!)
Hey… it’s good to be alive again, and for those of you who did not know this song that tells me that you are either a “simulac/crackbaby” or you had absolutely no childhood whatsoever, so for you I will simply compare the PROCESS to running the bases in a baseball game.
FIRST BASE- is getting the bill out of the House Judiciary Committee.
SECOND BASE- is getting this bill to the floor of the House for a vote with the (218) yes votes needed to get this bill over to the Senate.
THIRD BASE- is getting this bill through the Senate Judiciary Committee and then to the floor of the Senate for a vote getting the (51) votes necessary to get this bill to the President.
HOME BASE- The President signs the bill into law!
Tragically, for many of the men and women in the federal system this is not a game and in fact I will also “caution” all who wish to see this bill become a law to not get too relaxed because of the media coverage and the momentum that we have gained over the past few weeks, but I personally challenge each and every one of you to intensify your efforts by using your social media pages, emails, blogs and tweets to keep the pressure on Washington, D.C., so that special day may come for all of us who are suffering and who have a loved one suffering injustice to finally see true justice arrive and that that special day where we all can see our real loved ones and tell them “LONG TIME NO SEE!”
